Operation Warm Newport: Delaware KIDS Fund Camping out for Coats returns on Friday, November 8th. A temporary camp site will be set up in the heart of Newport (same field and location we host the annual KIDS Fund 5k, across the street from James Street Tavern on South James Street.).
Since our first year of camp in 2017, The Delaware KIDS Fund has been able to raise enough money to purchase 3,600 coats for every student at 7
different elementary schools (Richey Elementary, Richardson Park Elementary, Richardson Park Early Learning Center, Pulaski Elementary, Warner Elementary, Baltz Elementary School and Elbert Palmer Elementary). Our recent success has also helped open a new “Coat Closet” at Newport’s Richey Elementary School. The camping out campaign has raised over $75,000 with 100% of that money going to the purchase of brand new Operation Warm coats.
Camping out in Newport represents a commitment to warming up local children in need physically and mentally. The camping conditions are a bit chilly (and loud) with nearby Route 141 positioned next to the camp site… but at the end of the day, it’s about supporting our next generation of community. It’s more than a coat.
Join us on the camping experience to help gift brand new OPERATION WARM coats to 3 more schools in 2019!
An overwhelming percentage of these local children at our selected schools live at or below the poverty line (3 times the national average). The week after camp, we will distribute the coats. Brand new coats will help boost self-confidence, peer acceptance, overall wellness, increased school attendance and ultimately provide a better future as well as strengthen our community for the future. It will help inspire our next generation in need.
Instead of a registration fee, each camper will receive a donation link to send to their friends, family and colleagues. This is how we will raise our total of $40,000, together. No donation is too small!
